Hi everyone, Scott here. The contest we’ve been running this past month to find the audiobook industry’s next great talent, dubbed “Audiobook Idol” on Twitter by author Kevin Guilfoile, will now be extended an additional seven days.
That’s right, you get an extra week: the cut-off for submissions is now midnight on Tuesday, July 7 (meaning the midnight between Tuesday, July 7th and Wednesday, July 8th).
So everyone who’s been stressing to get their demo finished and submitted in time, fear not, your wish has been granted. Think of it as us holding the curtain for late seating. Or just wanting to enjoy the Fourth of July weekend before starting the grueling judging process.
My thanks to everyone here at Scott Brick Presents for making this all possible, and my thanks as well to everyone who’s entered the contest thus far. It’s been a wild ride, and I can’t wait to see where it goes…
Thanks for listening, and good luck!
Scott Brick

Does this mean that the winners will not be announced on July 10?
June 30th, 2009 at 12:33 pm
Den here. Yes, winners will be announced sometime in July or August, specific date TBD. We’ll let you know as soon as we can.
July 3rd, 2009 at 10:08 pm
How about those of us who submitted it by the original deadline, do we get a chance to re-submit an improved version?
July 5th, 2009 at 5:52 pm
I would also like to know if those of us who submitted by the original deadline of June 30 will have a chance to re-submit an improved version? Thank you!
July 7th, 2009 at 5:19 pm
Is the deadline midnight Pacific Time?
July 7th, 2009 at 5:45 pm
Den here. A couple answers for you:
@Geoffrey and Jen – Sorry, we can only accept one entry per person, so if you’ve already submitted a demo that’s the one we’ll go with.
@Eddie – Yes, contest closes at 11:59 PM Pacific Time tonight.
Good luck!

I’m so excited!
July 7th, 2009 at 10:11 pm
It’s not 11:59 Pacific time yet, but the form says it is no longer accepting file uploads!
July 7th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
Den here. Sorry about that, Amy, there was a system error and files couldn’t be uploaded for a bit. The form has been reset, and uploads work just dandy now. In a few minutes the front page will say that the contest is closed, but the entry form will be open until 1 AM or the next 30 uploads, whichever comes first, to give people time to re-upload. Good luck!

Thanks so much for this super opportunity! Just the “experience” of giving it a go to enter is marvelous. It’s so exciting! Feel like a kid waiting for Christmas!

Any update on semifinalists? Have they already been notified?

I’m not sure I ever got an acknowledgement of my submission. It was uploaded a day or so before the original deadline (I think).

Unfortunately, we can’t verify individual entries at this time. You would have received a verification email if the entry went through, best I can suggest is check your spam filter of the account you listed on your entry to see if the verification email went there.

Den – Do you have an idea of when the decision on the finalists will be made? Thanks.

The suspense (and I don’t think I’m alone) is KILLING me!
August 3rd, 2009 at 11:51 pm
CODE BLUE!!!! CLEAR!!! Good. We’ve got synapse rhythm….No, I’m not dead…yet, however; the suspense is “KILLING me”, too!

Shhh… Every time you talk, all the judges do that prairie dog thing sticking their heads up in their cubicles, and then it takes us an hour and some cookies to quiet them back down again… You know how excitable these audiobook producers can get…

I was hoping it was because they were overcome with awe at the quality of my demo… but the more likely scenario is that they’re laughing at it so hard they can’t go on.

Hi, i see ?’s regarding semi-finalists as well as finalists. Have the semis been announced already? How is this going to work, semi-finalists, then finalists, then winners? I looked and have not found the exact procedure for that, sorry if you have explained this already. All the while I thought it was just going to be one judging, with the one Grand prize person and a couple other winners of classes and such.? Thanks to you all for doing this again.

From what email address should we have expected confimration of demo receipt?
Thanks for the opportunity.

It would have come seconds after you uploaded your entry form and demo.

My bad. I found it.
Sorry.

So are there winners yet? Is there somewhere I’m supposed to look? What’s happening with this contest?
August 29th, 2009 at 10:39 am
Dear Mr. Admin:
Any idea when the revised announcement dates will be posted? Can you tell us how many entries were submitted?
Thank you,
One of I’m sure many inquiring minds!
August 31st, 2009 at 2:12 pm
Yeah! It’s August 31st, and even the ‘prairie dogs in their cubicles’ have got to be anxious by now…
August 31st, 2009 at 5:57 pm
Greetings, Mr. Admin…Could ya throw us a bone? We are being patient. If you wrote a brief “…not ready yet!”… that would calm us down. Thanks!
August 31st, 2009 at 6:14 pm
I wrote something to that effect earlier in the comments, but Scott will have an official update soon, probably this week. Sorry for the delay!

Thank you! Hey, I wonder which part of this was more fun…all of us recording our DEMOs for you, or all of you listening to them!

Hi Mr Admin,
Did I miss Scott’s update? I havent checked here in a while, and havent received email about it in months so I was wondering if something fell thru the cracks. Nobody answered my question a few posts up either. i guess what everybody wants to know, is there something going on with the contest, judges etc that we are not aware of which might be holding this up? We don’t need to know details, but maybe a short explanation. otherwise our imaginations wander, and the very fact that we are here suggests we have capable ones. For myself I guess I am resigned to the fact that the contest is dead, since I have seen no info to the contrary in a very, very long time. If the case, a brave explanation would go a long way. I do not not not want to think this contest was to boost convention attendance, audiobook narration courses and web sales. I respect you way too much for that. So now that I have torpedoed my chance of placing, or even being listened to, I bid you all good day.
