Dear Scott,

Although I see that your contest for new audiobook readers is closed, I wondered if I might drop you a line in case you are planning on holding another one.

I’m an opera singer from Toronto, Canada, who now lives and works in Brussels, Belgium. I’ve done a fair bit of spoken word acting and since my children have been enjoying audiobooks, was thinking of recording some.

This is August 11th. I’m anxiously waiting for the results of the contest. Maybe the announcements were made elsewhere or something. If so, please pass it on. If not, what is the status of the contest? I can say this: ever since I entered the contest I’ve been reading aloud every day. Now I’m reading “Harry Potter and the Lost Hallows.” It’s very challenging indeed, especially relating to the characters’ names, spells and locations. But, I’m having a blast and it’s great training. So, back to the original inquiry, what’s up with the contest?

Hi, Den Shewman here, Scott’s CCO and webmaster. The only way to submit your entry form and demo is through the online submission form — it’s best for recordkeeping as well as tracking, what with Scott sending MP3s across this great nation of ours to various judges.

What you can do is burn your MP3 demo to a disc, or copy it to a flash drive, and then upload it from work (if they allow it), a friend’s computer, or even a public workstation: Kinko’s, Starbucks (if you have WiFi), your public library, etc.

This is so exciting! I’m going to enter as I’ve longed to record my own books (couldn’t possibly afford a “professional”) so I figured I’d have a try at this competition and just maybe get some proper training, if I were very lucky. And a trip across the water would be great. Thanks so much Scott for setting this up – fantastic idea.
