San Diego Comic-Con - LogoGoing to the San Diego Comic-Con? Go see Scott! Say hello, get an autograph, or ask him to do his three-minute Hamlet!

(The answer to that last one is usually “No,” but maybe if enough people ask… well, hope springs eternal…)

Hey guys and gals, Scott is slammed with prepping for the annual geek migration known as the San Diego Comic-Con — amazing what you can write off as a business expense if you have the right accountant — but he asked me to post this note about a cool panel that he is moderating this Saturday afternoon.

Here are the details:

“Comics: Across Every Medium”

Saturday, July 26

2:00 - 3:00 PM

Room 6A

So who’s on this panel? Only a bunch of people who have shaped pop culture as we know it:

* Brad Meltzer, author, The Book of Lies

* David Goyer, screenwriter, Batman Begins

* Paul Feig, creator, Freaks & Geeks

* Whitney Matheson, columnist, USA Today’s “Pop Candy” blog

* Chip Kidd, author, The Learners

These superheroes of novels, film, television, journalism, and the graphic arts have a great love of comics, and they’ll be up on the dais talking with Scott about how funny books have shaped their lives and talents, and how those lives and talents brought them to the heights they now enjoy.

As Mr. Meltzer quipped, “It’ll be like a 21st-century Breakfast Club — but with better references.”

And since Scott’s not here to type it, let me say thanks for listening, and have a great week (and con)!

Den

Scott and Dan in the studio

Well, I’ve been asked numerous times over the years to teach a class in audiobook narration, but for whatever reason it just hasn’t worked out. Until now!

Ray Nakamoto, of Nakamoto Productions, recently got in touch and convinced me to take the trek up north to Sacramento, California to teach this class. We’ll be convening in his studio at 10:30 AM on Sunday, July 27th. The class will be three hours long, and will cover a number of topics, including:

* How to record an audiobook demo

* How to market yourself effectively to publishers

* How to differentiate character voices from narrative

* Where to do your online research

* Recognizing and interpreting the author’s voice

So, if any of you out there have ever yearned to be a narrator and will be anywhere near the Sacramento area at the end of July, I encourage you to get in touch with Ray and sign up for this class. I’m eagerly looking forward to it.

For more information on the Nakamoto’s class, click here for their PDF or call them at (916) 447-6435.

And for those of you in the Los Angeles area who are wondering when I’ll ever get around to teaching here in my home town, let’s just say I’m open to the idea, just waiting for the right local venue.

In the meantime, hop on a plane! Sacramento’s only an hour away.

Thanks for listening,

Scott
